Start your week off on the right track with these words of wisdom from Coach Tillison!

Choose today to be intentional about the people you spend time with and the things you spend time on. #ohyeahlifestyle

Reggie Kelly's Rules for Memorial Day Weekend

Whassup OhYeah! Fam!

As we prepare for the Memorial Day weekend, think LIMITATIONS!

Limit the large portions; your plate should be the size of your fist.

Limit the juice or alcohol use; drink plenty of water or an OhYeah! Vanilla Creme Nutritional Shake, my favorite!

Limit sweets or desserts; Eat more fresh fruits. They are fresh and in season this time of year, so they’ll taste even better!

Limit sitting so much; stay moving!

Limit complaining; encourage yourself more; YOU can do this!

Also I would like to say thanks to the people who took time to submit their favorite acronyms. Great tools to meditate and live by. Here are my favorites:

Leslie Fye from Longview, Mississippi

W—Willing to

E--Embrace

L—Life and

L—-Love

Adrian D. Jack from Strong, Texas

A—Always

S—Say

A—A

P—Prayer

Thank you for your support and dedication to being committed on learning how to stay fit and giving OhYeah! a try. Have a great weekend & be safe!

It wasn’t until this past weekend when I visited a friend in Nashville, that my mind (and taste buds) were once again enlightened! Believe it or not, I went to my first Farmers Market! Everything was so bright, fresh, and juicy looking! With Andrea by my side, the amazing person behind Liberation Kitchen blog, I learned stuff about food all weekend!

Here’s some awesomeness I learned from my first experience!

1. Local, organic and seasonal TASTES better! Since the fruits and veggies are grown locally, they are picked when perfectly ripened! Therefore, their taste is sweeter and their texture is perfect! When I tried a strawberry and my eyes popped out of my head from the sweetness, Andrea asked “you see how there isn’t a white center in the middle of it? That’s the difference between strawberries grown in good soil and then freshly picked!”

2. Healthier for you! Since the produce doesn’t have to go through miles of transportation and is usually picked that very morning, the nutrients are at their peak! You don’t even need seasoning to eat the food! I was walking around eating raw snap peas right out of the crate!

3. You know where it comes from! I never really thought about it, but it’s really nice to know exactly where you food comes from, especially because you’re putting it in YOUR body (or your family’s bodies). Knowing that someone had your health in mind instead of the shelf life of a grocery store is so comforting!

4. The price is BETTER! Believe it or not, the cost of seasonal produce is actually cheaper than some of the produce I buy at the grocery store sometimes! That’s a win-win for all!

It’s safe to say that Nashville definitely left a huge mark on my thoughts of healthy living! Farmers Markets are everywhere! For someone who plans on having kids years down the road, it’s something that I need to start taking into consideration more for my personal health and my family’s health!

Since I am still a beginner in this whole “Farmers Market Madness” I need some pointers from all of you!! What are some things you can share with me about your experience at Farmers Markets? I’d love to know!!!

Research indicates that the body starts to slow down in as little as 30 minutes and that sitting for long periods of time decreases our metabolism, shuts off our fat burning enzymes, and can even lead to clogged arteries and heart disease. Some researchers say that constant sitting can be as bad for you as smoking!

If you didn’t have motivation to get your butt moving at work, now you do. The good news is that people who get up and move once or twice an hour can prevent these things from happening.

Here are three sure-fire moves to keep your blood flowing and your butt cheeks from bulging. You can do them anytime, anywhere, including right near your desk or while you’re on the phone. Let’s go!

1. Good Mornings

Start upright, feet shoulder-width distance apart, hands behind your head. Keeping your core engaged, hinge at the waist keeping your back flat. 15-20 reps.

2. Hip Extensions

Stand with both hips facing forward. Resist the urge to turn. Put one hand on a wall or chair for balance. Put your brain in your butt cheek as you lift right leg back – heel first. Extend as far as you can without turning your hips. Repeat with left leg. 15-20 reps.

3. Plie Squats

Start with your feet wider than shoulder-width distance apart and turn your toes out. Keeping your weight in your heels and your knees turned out, squat down and then up. Repeat. Turn it up a notch by lifting your helps us as you squat. 15-20 reps.

While at work, try to take exercise breaks every hour. These breaks can be as simple as getting up to speak to a colleague in person rather than emailing them, or getting a headset and doing your butt-burning moves while talking on the phone. And who says meetings have to be done sitting down? Why not take them on the road or to the stairwell? You can turn your one-on-ones into a walking meeting. You never know what great ideas you’ll come up with!

Everyone has their own opinion when it comes to being sore after a workout. Some love it and some never want to feel it. The soreness that you feel a day or two after a workout is called D.O.M.S or Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. This is caused by, yes, that awesome workout you just put yourself through, but more specifically by little muscle microtearing that helps to build muscle fiber.

Depending on the person, it can take up 24-72 hours before you feel it and can last a couple of days! Beginners are obviously going to be more sore and for longer, but, this is NORMAL!! This is why some people love the soreness feeling because they know they were working hard enough to build more muscle (remember that muscle burns fat!!) In fact, it’s not during the exercise that your muscles are getting bigger and stronger, but after your workout.

How to increase the lean muscle building even more:

• REST! You absolutely must rest the muscles you worked for 1-2 days after a workout so the muscles can recover and build! This doesn’t make an excuse to not go to the gym at all; just work different muscle groups or focus on cardio!

• PROTEIN! Muscles are made of protein, therefore they need it! Make sure you are getting the proper amount of protein in each day and especially after your workout! Bring your shaker to the gym and have your OhYeah! Total Protein System protein powder ready to drink right after!

How to prevent as much soreness as possible (short of sitting on the couch!):

• Warm-up for at least 5-10 minutes before a workout to get your blood flowing and loosen up with your muscles.

• Drink plenty of water before and after your workout to keep you hydrated! You should be sweating a lot during your workout, so make sure to replace the amount lost! You don’t want any muscle cramps!

• STRETCH after your warm-up and after your workout so you won’t tighten up as much.

• KEEP MOVING! Go for a light walk or run the next day. The worst thing you can do is nothing at all!

Are you the type of person that likes to be sore after a workout, or rather feel nothing at all? What have you found that has kept you from getting as sore? I always love hearing your advice!!

Check out this video of me competing in the US Grappling NC State Championship in Raleigh, NC. This is my championship match in the Gi division. I took first and ended up finishing this guy with what’s called a “Bow and Arrow” choke. I was exhausted after this match (it was the end of an 8 hour day). I will be competing again in Charlotte on June 2. Come check us out!

Last weekend wasn’t only Cinco de Mayo, it was also the date of the CBVA Laguna Beach Open. While many of you were eating chips and salsa and drinking cervezas, I was drinking Gatorade and enjoying my OhYeah Chocolate Peanut Butter wafers! Lucky me! :-)

This tournament was hosted in the heart of Laguna Beach, a stone’s throw away from the waves and a hop skip and a jump to the cafes, coffee shops and surf shops that dot the Laguna coast. I played with a very good friend of mine, Lynne Brinkman Galli, who is also a Laguna native and has been the tournament champion more times than I can remember!

We started out the day in a 3 team pool with the teams of Sara Day and Morgan Beck, and Gabi Roney and Cassie Johnson. Lynne and I played great in pool play with only a few errors here and there and ended up winning all of our matches, earning us a bye in the playoffs.

Playoffs started with us beating the team of Mackenzie Brook and Dana Thompson 25-12, then moving to the semifinals to beat Emily Day and Heather Hughes 25-14.

In the finals, we were matched up against Sheila Shaw and Kathryn Babcock, a young up and coming team from Chicago who had started out the day ranked last in the tournament! The game started out very close, with each team fighting for every point. The rallies alone lasted at least 2 minutes each (which is long for beach volleyball)! However, at about 9-9, Lynne and I pushed the score in our favor by her tough serving and our defense. Eventually we finished the game 28-17!

Saturday was a truly fun day! We topped it all off with a family BBQ at la casa de Brinkman to celebrate our victory!

“Will protein shakes make me gain weight?”

This is a question I get all the time, and I am here to help you understand!! Your body needs protein. Whether you are trying to lose weight, gain muscle, or maintain your current weight; protein is second to water as the most abundant substance in your body and the primary source of building materials for muscles, blood, skin, and other organs!

Here are a few other protein facts:

Proper protein shakes can keep you full without loading up on fat. Eating consistent meals combined with protein will also help keep lean muscle on your body (which is the key staying toned).

Protein shakes are great meal replacements when you’re on the go. For busy moms, nurses, students, etc, proteins shakes are a very convenient meal replacement for getting the proper amount of protein in your diet each day! You know there are going to be days where you just can’t sit down and have a grilled chicken salad. What’s easier than throwing your favorite scoop of OhYeah! Total Protein System powder in a blender bottle?

Replace a meal or snack with a protein shake throughout the day and always have one after your workout! Look at the nutritional facts and make sure it’s low in sugar and carbs (just like you would look at yogurt!)

So the answer is, NO! Protein shakes will not make you gain weight! If you can’t get over the protein shake—bodybuilder connection, then just call it a vanilla or chocolate smoothie! Add fruit, natural peanut butter, cinnamon, etc. on the days you can have fun with it!!

Now here is the fun {GIVEAWAY!} part: I want to know how protein shakes have helped your fitness goals and everyday life! Leave a comment with your answer and I will select one winner* who will receive 6 samples of the OhYeah! Total Protein System Powder (what I use everyday) and an OhYeah! blender bottle!

Whassup OhYeah! Fam!

What a great week of workouts! There is never a day off. I am always on the grind and I hope you are too! Are you still motivated and seeing results? Remember it is not how you start or even how you are doing now. There is still time to start over and get back on track to reach your goals!

In order to see results, you must be disciplined! You must let go of some of your past ways to move forward. You can do it and I am here to encourage you along the way. Don’t forget to stock up on OhYeah! Nutrition products as you stay on track to reach your goals. I personally recommend OhYeah! Vanilla Creme Shakes and Almond Fudge Brownie Good Grab Bars. As you drink and eat them, you can think of me because they’re my personal favorites! LOL

On a thankful note, Happy Mother’s Day to all the mom’s out there! You are truly virtuous women. I would like for you to tell me below “HOW SPECIAL IS YOUR MOM?” Remember to give them their flowers while they are still living!

OhYeah fam!

I get asked often to speak at events throughout the year, and not always just about fitness. I give a lot of motivational speeches as well. Mental and spiritual health and balance are just as important as physical. I thought I’d share a piece of that with you in this video. It’s a departure from my other videos, so leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Whassup OhYeah! Fam!

Out with April and bring on May! What I want to know is, how will you make adjustments this month to reach your goals? This goes working out, eating right, or life and business goals. Remember that in order to see results you must put forth maximum effort! How determined are you? How motivated are you?

Well as the saying goes,

“let’s stop talking about it and let’s be about it!”

Let’s make this month of May your best month yet as goals are reached and testimonies are being told to help encourage someone else. What good is it if we don’t reach back and motivate someone else? We need you to be a difference maker; stay on your grind.

I was so excited to see all those who responded by creating and naming their OhYeah Bar last week! You know I love giving away OhYeah! goods! I want to give away my favorite OhYeah! Vanilla Creme shake now, the one thing I drink after I workout to replenish my body.

To win, answer the following question in the comments:

What are you going to do in the month of May to get closer to reaching your goals?

Is it an extra day in the gym? Are you joining a summer sports league? Will you attend a business seminar? Read a motivational book? Whatever it is, let me know by the contest deadline, Friday, May 4th. I’ll select one commenter as the winner! (Open to U.S. residents only… it’s a shipping thing). I can’t wait to see your responses!

Also congrats to all the newly drafted NFL players. I encourage you to give OhYeah! a try as you all begin your off-season training.

Time to go get it!

PEACE

Now that my not-so-healthiest, but oh so fun weekend is over (Bachelorette Party)… it’s time to really start focusing on workouts and eating healthy for my wedding! Not just for reasons to look great in pictures, but to FEEL great! I know these next couple of months are going to be a little stressful with wedding planning, events that don’t have the healthiest food options, and those days that I just want a bowl of ice cream. So I need to make sure to keep my body as balanced as possible for these reasons:

I don’t get sick

I sleep better at night

I’m just a happier person! :)

A lot of people might expect me to start eating SUPER clean and working out 7 days a week the next couple of months before my wedding. However, this isn’t a photo-shoot or a competition where I am planning for one day. No, I am planning for my rehearsal dinner, wedding, and honeymoon!

I don’t want to feel weak, cranky, or tired on those days (like your body can get when you cut carbs and diet super hard) and I don’t want my body to go into shock (and bloat like crazy) on my honeymoon when I’m eating beach food and enjoying my umbrella drink. How bad would that be? So here are a few things I definitely will be starting this week to get me ready for my Wedding Events!

Drinking more water. I know I say this a lot, but I have to remind myself this literally everyday! You want your face and skin to look it’s best for your big day, and lack of water will really show in pictures. It will also keep your energy up and help burn extra fat! My new thing is getting a colorful jug and putting some ISS Research Promino AM in it. It’s like I’m drinking a summer drink all day!

Committing to 4 days of sweat. Hire a trainer or open your favorite fitness magazine and do one day upper body, one day lower body, one day full body, and one day either take a class, play a sport, work in the yard, run around with your kids, etc! Throw 20min of cardio in on those days, and you are set!

At least 7 hours of sleep!! This is going to be hard for me, but I know my body needs it! Sleep will do wonders for weight loss, your skin, cravings, muscle recovery, etc, etc. The positive effects of getting enough sleep are endless!! This is a must for my wedding prep!

Make majority of my meals healthy! If you’re eating 6 times a day, 7 days a week… that’s 42 meals in a week! Whoa! Therefore, a couple meals here and there aren’t going to kill you. BUT you know your body better than anyone else. You HAVE to remind yourself, “Yes I can reward myself here and there, but how do I want to look AND feel the day of my wedding and honeymoon?”

As hard as it is, really limit the sweets and carbs at night. Your body doesn’t need them. Blend up an OhYeah! Vanilla Creme Total Protein System with natural peanut butter and top it with a SMALL dollip of light cool whip, throw a cherry on top and pretend you just ordered a really fattening milkshake! ☺

For all your ladies out there that HAVE gone through the big day, what advice do you have for me while preparing for my wedding? What did you find worked best for you to get ready? I can’t wait to hear about it!! Thanks again for all the support!!

Community!

I can’t believe it’s the end of April. Beach season is almost here! I want to share with you some of my favorite tricks that I do everyday to be beach-ready. Remember to always consult your doctor before trying any new diet and/or exercise regimen.

Arms - 5 sets of 10 pushups every day

Legs/Glutes - 3 sets of 15 squats. Then 2 sets of 10 reps of lunges (each leg).

Abs - 200 reps a day 3-5 days a week. Do whatever type of abdominal exercises you want as long as you do 200 of them.

Swap rice, pasta, bread, and cereals with fruits and raw/steamed veggies.

Lose the fancy coffee drink. For example, a Starbucks Grande Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino has 500 calories! That’s equivalent to eating a McDonalds Big Mac (550 cal).

Satisfy chocolate craving with low-sugar OhYeah! bars. The OhYeah! Good Grab Almond Fudge Brownie bar is my favorite. With 14 grams of protein and only 190 calories, it’s a good way to curb your appetite and the protein helps build lean muscle mass.

Good Luck and happy training!

Doesn’t it sound amazing? Well, that was GERMANY in my eyes! Getting the chance to attend the FIBO Expo in Essen, Germany was such an amazing experience. Not only did I get to know my fellow teammate, MPR Athete David Schachterle better, but I got to meet some of the best people ever!

The FIBO Expo is HUGE! Bigger than the Arnold and Olympia COMBINED! David and I worked the booth from 8:45am-6:00pm Thursday-Sunday helping sell products, but mostly taking pictures, and signing autographs with all the OhYeah! Fans! People in Germany LOVE sweets, so they can’t get enough of the OhYeah! Bars because they taste sweet, but are low in sugar! I definitely have that in common with them!

I was blown away with how many Facebook Fans I had show up at the booth! I even had a girl named Michelle print out her fav pics of me for me to sign! How cool is that? I couldn’t stop smiling!

Besides the expo being a huge success and amazing experience, I did get a little time to venture outside the convention center and into downtown Essen! Here are some fun things I learned!

• People are VERY nonjudgmental! You can wear what you want, look however you want, and no one seems to care! It was like a walking fashion show all weekend for me with different hair styles, shoes, culture, etc.

• When at a restaurant you can’t just order water. You have to order water with “no fizz” or “no gas” or they will automatically bring you carbonated water!

• Restaurants have coat racks (most that I saw). Instead of throwing it on your chair, you walk in and put your jacket on the coat rack.

• Everyone drives the nicest cars! Well, when I see taxis only driving Mercedes and every other car is either a BMW or Audi, my first American thought was “everyone is rich here.” But in Germany their cars have smaller engines, and obviously are sold here less. You don’t see any pickup trucks, SUVS, etc.

• The nightlife was amazing. Instead of paying cash to the bartender, you are given a punch card when you walk in and you pay for how many “punches” you have at the end of the night.

• The majority of girls DON’T WEAR HIGH HEELS! What? EVERYONE just dances and has a blast. I’m sure girls were looking at me thinking “now how is she going to dance wearing those shoes?” I fell in love with the German nightlife! Boys and girls just dance to every song (and no they don’t grind on each other). They literally just jump around and have the time of their life.

• I will definitely be bring back the “Shandy” drink to America. Since Germans like things sweet, they put Sprite, Coke or Fanta in their beer!! I of course had to try it out, and let’s just say Germans are very smart ;)

This doesn’t even come close to explaining how much fun I had at the FIBO Expo! It really opened my eyes to see how many people in the world are interested in staying in shape, and wanting to learn more about it! Being able to share that with a different culture is such an amazing feeling. I definitely want to start traveling even more now! I don’t even mind the time zone difference!

If you attended the FIBO Expo this year, I would LOVE to hear what your favorite moments were below! If you didn’t get a chance to and you have traveled to Germany, what interesting facts did you found out there? Let me know what I missed!!!

Yet, it is the single most preventable cause of death.

Caring about heart health has always been important to me, especially since I grew up with a heart surgeon as a father. Early on, I was taught by my parents how to mitigate my risk and learned that diet, exercise and stress management are the key to preventing cardiovascular problems. I decided to make heart-healthy practices the way I lived my life.

Here are the things I do every day to keep my heart healthy:

1. Positive right out of the gate.

My happiness is important to the success I want to achieve and to maintaining a low stress level. I know that if I start my day with a positive outlook then I will have more energy to motivate the people around me to reach farther than they thought possible. I get energized by this and so does my heart.

2. Heart-healthy breakfast.

Physicians say you need 25 grams of fiber a day to lower cholesterol so each morning, I enjoy a high protein, high fiber and omega-3 rich breakfast. My favorite options are steel-cut oatmeal with blueberries or a protein shake (OhYeah! Total Protein System). I also add fiber and organic flax seed which is high in omega-3 essential fatty acids and known to lower cholesterol.

3. Afternoon workouts.

While I spend most of my day going to class, responding to emails, and doing homework, I do book an appointment with myself for a vigorous workout. Most afternoons, you’ll find me at the gym strength training for at least an hour. Then, I take a bike ride or run to get my cardio fix. If I want a healthy heart, this is a non-negotiable no matter how busy I get.

4. Green tea for energy.

This alternative to caffeine is my coffee substitute because it’s rich in antioxidants that protect heart arteries from forming clots which can cause a heart attack.

5. Almond breaks.

Just a handful is an excellent source of protein, fiber, vitamin E and magnesium, and arginine, which is known to improve blood flow to the heart and reduce cholesterol. Plus, if you’re like me and have a sweet tooth, you’ll find the Emerald Coast cocoa roasted almonds are perfect for killing that chocolate craving!

6. Whole foods at lunch and dinner.

Nothing in my daily meals comes from a package. I always have at least one salad a day of dark greens like spinach or kale. Even on days when I do splurge on pasta, I make sure that I have plenty of greens. I stick to clean proteins like grilled chicken and even a good turkey burger on a whole wheat bun! I also love grains and veggies low on the glycemic index like quinoa, lentils and beans.

7. Supplement my diet with a detoxing shot, omega-3 and omega-6.

I don’t trust the fish these days because even the ‘fresh caught, wild salmon’ is secretly farm raised… so to be sure I get enough of these essential fatty acids, I take a supplement of docosahexaeonic acid (DHA) that promotes brain, eye and heart health Three doses of this fish-free solution per day is equivalent of eating 3 oz. of salmon!

What do you do for your own heart health? Tell me about your heart healthy habits!
